I wrote about the ‘Planet Of The Humans’ documentary 3 months ago here, and it did not get enough views. If you find yourself agreeing with my other commentary, and even if you already know what a scam “green energy” is, you will still want to follow that link and read my comments there, and also watch the documentary. It was educational even for me.
As noted clearly in ‘Planet Of The Humans’, solar cells are NOT made out of sand as is usually claimed. They contain high amounts of toxic substances, and one of the primary ingredients is coal. The far let wing LA Times, of all “news” sources, has actually just published an article spelling out what California is in for with disposing of the rapidly degrading solar panels that it started heavily subsidizing just 16 years ago.
The panels are supposed to have a 25 year life, but apparently many aren’t making it that long. For reference, a few years ago I did a basic calculation of the cost recovery time for the expense of a solar array on my roof. I used some very generous assumptions for output (hours of full sun) per day, and at the same time I did NOT include any costs for maintenance. Even with that pie in the sky scenario, it would have taken about 22 years for me to recover my costs.
Factor in real world use, especially in locales with fewer days of full sun than greater Phoenix, and odds are you never recover your costs without subsidies. In fact, even in Phoenix or other SW desert towns, with no subsidies you will have to do your own cleaning and maintenance, even with the price reductions in solar panels in the past few years, in order to ever hope to come close to recovering your cost. This is why you didn’t and still don’t see every roof, of homes built in the last 20 to 30 years, in greater Phoenix covered with solar cells. When you’re talking a $20,000 to $50,000 investment, people usually ask more questions about returns on investment (ROI).
If the life cycle of the panels then turns out to be years less than that promised, your ROI calculation goes down the toilet along with your hard earned money. And as ‘Planet Of The Humans’ and this new LA Times article point out, the promise of “green energy” was a delusion. So you’ve wasted a bunch of money and ended up harming the environment that you were fool enough to think you were saving.
Another great illustration of how the road to hell is paved with good intentions. And as always, this is especially true of left wing ideas.
