Have you looked at failed global warming predictions lately??
Here's some I'll think you'll like.
If you live in California or one of the states that borders it, you know what’s happened to the global warming caused “permanent drought” in that state lately. The situation now is many feet of snow in the mountains and flooding down below that is likely to get much worse as the snowpack melts. The longer and more severe drought that prompted the permanent drought was actually broken a couple years ago.
Couple this with Greta Thunberg deleting a tweet from 2018 about a top climate “scientist” who claimed that all of humanity would be wiped out unless we had stopped using “fossil fuels” within 5 years, and I figured it was time to list some of the failed global warming predictions. (The picture links to the story, and other pictures below have links to other sources.)
It’s probably no surprise that the “top climate scientist’s” article has also been deleted, since it included yet another prediction of an ice free Arctic. Now technically Greta wrote the tweet on June 21 of 2018, so if the article was written right before Greta tweeted about it then we’ve got some more time to save all of humanity. If the whole world stops using “fossil fuels” in the next 3 months we just might survive until summer.
It’s about now that I would like to see the Substack editor have a set of laughing emojis like social media sites do.
What might be the most interesting thing about that very recent failed prediction is the very short timeline. Most “climate scientists” in the past couple decades have learned to make sure that their doomsday scenario won’t show up until long after they are dead. If they hadn’t gotten the message by the early 2000s, you would think that Al Gore’s epic fail would have done the trick. Rush Limbaugh started the clock right after Al Gore made that prediction in January of 2006.
Now, the last time I heard some liberal talk about “ten years” it was 1988, Ted Danson. We had ten years to save the oceans; we were all going to pay the consequences, which would result in our death. Now Al Gore says we’ve got ten years. Ten years left to save the planet from a scorching. Okay, we’re going to start counting. This is January 27th, 2006. We will begin the count, ladies and gentlemen.
Rush left a link up on his website to the “doomsday clock” until it expired. Of course January 2016 has come and gone, over 7 years ago, and yet the planet did not get scorched.
Atmospheric CO2 is higher too, continuing on the same upward trajectory since the first regular measurements started on Mauna Loa in Hawaii back in 1958. And of course India and far more so China have built numerous coal fired power plants since that time. Their CO2 output increases have been way more than enough to offset the small but extremely costly reductions in the U.S. and Europe, and that will continue to be the case no matter how much economic damage unhinged liberal lunatics are able to do the Western World via the global warming scam and related “green energy” scam.
A little over a year after Gore’s countdown started, there was another warning from UN “scientists” and reported by reliably left wing The Guardian.
Governments are running out of time to address climate change and to avoid the worst effects of rising temperatures, an influential UN panel warned yesterday.
Greater energy efficiency, renewable electricity sources and new technology to dump carbon dioxide underground can all help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the experts said. But there could be as little as eight years left to avoid a dangerous global average rise of 2C or more.
The warning came in a report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published yesterday in Bangkok. It says most of the technology needed to stop climate change in its tracks already exists, but that governments must act quickly to force through changes across all sectors of society. Delays will make the problem more difficult, and more expensive.
Rajendra Pachauri, who chairs the IPCC, said the report would underpin negotiations to develop a new international treaty to regulate emissions to replace the Kyoto protocol when it expires in 2012.
Since this was only an 8 year countdown and starting in May of 2007, this doomsday clock actually expired months before Al Gore’s did and almost 8 years ago now.
Note the language I put in bold of “governments must act quickly to force through changes across all sectors of society.” Ponder that for a while if you have any doubts at all that the global warming scam is all about controlling your life while at the same time robbing you blind. You can rest assured that the things that need to be forced on you to stop the global warming will be much like lockdowns, masking, and the “safe and effective” “vaccines” are. As in far worse than useless along with being destructive and deadly.
Al Gore’s idiocy is fairly well known, but there was something noteworthy just shortly after his prediction that included an even shorter range prediction than what Greta tweeted about. That prediction was included in a presentation to democrats right after the election of 2008. Democrats already controlled both houses of congress after the 2006 election, and with Obama’s election they maintained control of congress and also had the presidency. It was a perfect scenario for the global warming scam artists to push their agenda to a receptive audience of leftist politicians, and they did so right after the election.
In a presentation to those incoming democrats (and RINOs as well), William Becker gave a PowerPoint presentation on November 13th of 2008. I don’t have the audio or video of the presenter(s), but all the slides are at the link in the picture. I’m not sure the audio commentary is going to add much.
Right after the title slide, the presentation went straight into the fear porn. Consider the use of the word “science” now with all the times you’ve been told about “science” in the past 3 years of the Corona scamdemic/plandemic.
The “solutions” started on the next slide. Of course the UN IPCC “scientists” were being referenced again here.
If you followed the link on CO2 monitoring and saw the graph, you know that atmospheric CO2 levels were NOT stabilized after 2008. Emissions of course were not stabilized either thanks mostly to China as previously mentioned. Whether stabilizing or even completely eliminating man made CO2 emissions would have any effect on total atmospheric levels is in fact unknown, regardless of what any “climate scientist” tells you.
This is separate from the fact that CO2 concentration is NOT one of the main factors controlling the temperature. The sun and water vapor are the most dominant factors, and various cyclical ocean changes are the mostly likely cause of multi decade changes. In the slide above they also claim there needed to be big reductions by 2020, and of course those did not happen either. There is no plan that will reduce man made global CO2 emissions without India and China playing along, and they have consistently made clear that they will not participate in destroying their economies.
Going to the next slide we see a very short countdown clock. No doubt tailored to a 4 year presidential term. It comes from none other than Rajendra Pachauri who was quoted by The Guardian above and who was the head of the UN IPCC ("Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) at the time.
So just 2 to 3 years! Making sure to note that it needs to happen before 2012, no doubt to avoid any left wing lunacy during the presidential campaign of 2012. Of course that “next 2 to 3 years” fell within both Al Gore’s 10 year clock and the other 8 year clock, and what was done then didn’t “determine” or “define” anything.
The bottom of the slide features good ol James Hansen. Hansen was one of the first warmists to go on record with dire predictions. He testified before Congress in 1988 on the subject. His predictions in that testimony and others he made are debunked here. More notably, Hansen was interviewed by WaPo reporter Bob Reiss in 1988 or 1989:
I went over to the window with him and looked out on Broadway in New York City and said, "If what you're saying about the greenhouse effect is true, is anything going to look different down there in 20 years?" He looked for a while and was quiet and didn't say anything for a couple seconds. Then he said, "Well, there will be more traffic." I, of course, didn't think he heard the question right. Then he explained, "The West Side Highway [which runs along the Hudson River] will be under water. And there will be tape across the windows across the street because of high winds.”
That tidbit, and Hansen doubling down on it 12 or 13 years later in 2001, can be found here where Suzy Hansen (I assume no relation to James.) is interviewing Reiss.
When did he say this will happen?
Within 20 or 30 years. And remember we had this conversation in 1988 or 1989.
Does he still believe these things?
Yes, he still believes everything. I talked to him a few months ago and he said he wouldn't change anything that he said then.
To see the visual of how pathetic Hansen’s prediction about the West Side Highway was, here’s a view from a walkway along the Hudson river from May of 2021. Note the steps on the left and the water level shown in the distance on the right hand side. The top of those steps is close to street level which Hansen said would be underwater.
For reference this spot is just slightly North of Chambers Street (pure coincidence) looking South. I’m not sure what the tide is or where high tide reaches, but it looks like Hansen’s sea level prediction is off by 6 to 10 feet. WUWT quantified his temperature error almost 11 years ago here at 150%.
The bottom line being Hansen was consistently wrong prior to 2008 but they included him that presentation anyway. (Leftists will actually still claim Hansen was right just like they’ll still claim Trump colluded with Russia and there was “Russian interference” in the 2016 election.) It’s now been 22 years since Hansen doubled down, and 34 to 35 years since Hansen made his 20 to 30 year prediction. He was pathetically wrong.
When I started this post I was going to talk more about the drought claims of global warmists, including The Great Lakes, Texas, and then California, but I’m pretty long here already. I’ll keep the rest brief.
The Great Lakes water level rebounded after 2013, and though many of the alarmists didn’t claim “climate change”, the EPA has some graphs up now from 1860 to 1920 under a heading of “Climate Change Indicators”. Tell me if you see any patterns after the industrial era started during or just after WWII. I’ve done data analysis for more than 20 years and I don’t see any patterns.
After the Great Lakes came back up Texas was a focus, until it got drenched and the “permanent drought” was wiped out within a few weeks back in late spring of 2015. Lake Travis is one of the best indicators. It rose by over 32 feet from May to June 2015, and over 51 feet for the year.
After that happened the Texas drought and how it was an ominous sign of global warming disappeared from the news, and of course the rapid recovery from that regional drought did not disprove global warming at all.
So next up the California drought was the talk of the town, and that lasted until 2020 or so before that state got drenched similar to how it’s getting drenched now. Of course the heavy snow and floods now are yet another confirmation of global warming and absolutely do not refute anything that was said before about the drought being caused by warming.
No matter what the weather is, dry, wet, hot, or cold, or how long it lasts, or how big of an area it affects, it’s always global warming. There is no weather out there anywhere in the world that disproves global warming theories. It’s an “existential threat” and you’re going to have to sacrifice and pay dearly to stop it. Just ask any hard core leftist you know.
I’ve put a few more links to failed predictions in the comments.
March of 1982. This may be one of the earliest warming scares, since the scare was cooling into at least 1979.

Here's a claim that The Great Lakes being full is due to global warming.
